RAMSR-T Equipment

Before we go any further in this course, it is important that you have access to all of the resources you will need to practice RAMSR-T.

RAMSR-T equipment

RAMSR-T is purposefully designed as a low cost and low resource program. Here we will show you all of the resources required.

  1. You will need your RAMSR-T resource folder with everything printed double sided in colour, and your visual cue cards and session plans laminated so they are robust to you moving them in and out of the folder and using them to run sessions. In the next section of the course you can download the folder, and we will also walk you through it to help you find your way around the folder.

  2. You will need an audio device player, whether that be an iPad or phone.

  3. You will also need a speaker. There are many great wireless speakers out there that connect via Bluetooth, but you can also connect your audio playing device by chord to a speaker.

We suggest that you have the volume set to full on your device, then adjust the speaker volume from there as you test your audio. During the session you can then easily adjust the volume by either your audio playing device or the speaker, whichever is easiest and close to hand.

  1. The RAMSR-T audio tracks can be accessed through an app which we will show in in an upcoming section of the course.

  2. You will need pairs of rhythm sticks – enough for one pair for each adult and child participating. We suggest a piece of Tasmanian Oak or similar, 18mm dowel from a hardware store, cut in to approximately 13cm lengths with any splinters sanded at the end to avoid splinters. You might like to ask a parent volunteer to create these for you, or make it a project for the children to participate in. The reason we use this dowel rather than traditional Latin American claves, or Indigenous rhythm sticks, is because they are inexpensive, easy to make, light for children to hold, and easy to store and clean, and the sound is inoffensive when you have a group of 20 to 30 people tapping away – the volume won’t be too loud.

  1. Two metallic egg shakers will be needed for each adult and child participating. We use four different coloured eggs – metallic gold, red, blue and green. Many music shops will sell these. Type into google metallic egg shakers or metallic egg maracas and you will find suppliers.

  1. You will need a length of coloured ribbon for each child - approx. 30-40cm in length and approx. 4cm wide. A curtain ring attached to the ribbon is optional but may assist younger children to hold the ‘ribbon’ by either holding the wooden ring or by putting their hand through the ring. Wooden curtain rings can be found at haberdashers.
