Welcome

This short free introductory course provides an overview of the RAMSR program including some sample videos and sample activities that you can try with your children.

RAMSR (Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation) was developed at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) by a team of early childhood educators and music therapy/neurologic music therapy professionals. It is a program for young children that aims to support their attentional and emotional regulation skills, as well as mental flexibility, inhibition, and working memory (the executive functions). These skills are so important for supporting learning and wellbeing across the lifespan.

The program is a carefully designed set of rhythmic movement activities that can be done in a group or with individual children. Activities aim to stimulate some of the same brain benefits that learning a musical instrument might provide. RAMSR is based on a number of neurologic areas of research including music therapy, the cognitive benefits of music education, and self-regulation development. Any adult can learn to implement RAMSR activities, even if they have absolutely no music training or background.

We hope you enjoy this introductory RAMSR course. May all your days be rhythmic!
